My. Melnikov et al., PHOTOINDUCED TRANSFORMATIONS OF TETRAHYDROFURAN RADICAL CATIONS IN FREON MATRICES AT 77 K, High energy chemistry, 32(1), 1998, pp. 34-37
The spectral properties of tetrahydrofuran (THF) radical cations trapp
ed in irradiated glassy Freon mixture (CFCl3 and CF2BrCF2Br) at 77 K w
ere determined (lambda(max) = 430 nm, epsilon(max) = (2.1 +/- 0.5) x 1
0(3) l/(mol cm). By ESR, it was shown that the action of light (lambda
= 405 or 436 nm) on THF radical cations in glassy Freon matrices resu
lted in formation of radicals from TNF. In the case of polycrystalline
Freon matrix, the action of light leads mainly to the decay of THF ra
dical cations without formation of new paramagnetic species. The quant
um yields of photoinduced transformations of THF radical cations were
determined. These values show no dependence of the excitation light wa
velength.
