Abstract
Appropriately substituted xanthate derivatives of N-ethenyl acetamides undergo radical cyclisation to give beta-lactams with transfer of the xanthate group. In one case, a cascade of unexpected and unusual hydr ogen transfer reactions occurred. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All r ights reserved.
