Voltammetry is used to show that adsorbed hydrogen is capable of accum
ulating in noticeable quantities at the surface of electrodes made of
single-crystal CdSe only in the presence of cadmium adatoms (metal in
the first energy state) of structural defects. Specific features of co
mplicated voltammograms that are recorded during a concurrent ionizati
on or adsorbed hydrogen and cadmium adatoms at the CdSe surface are st
udied. It is found that the corresponding maximums of the current can
be separated better by selecting an optimum scan rate.
