Gh. Tabalenkova et al., THE CONTROL OF TUBER FORMATION IN SOLANUM-ANDIGENUM CONVAR. ZHUKOVSKII, Russian journal of plant physiology, 45(1), 1998, pp. 24-27
The effects of chlorocholine chloride (CCC) and short days (SD) on CO2
exchange in leaves, the partition of C-14-assimilates, and biomass ac
cumulation in tubers of potato species Solanum andigenum convar. zhuko
vskii Lechn., which forms tubers only under SD conditions, were studie
d. CCC and SD improved biomass accumulation and increased starch conte
nt in tubers at the expense of reduced deposits of current photosyntha
tes in stems. The conclusion was reached that CCC and SD exerted simil
ar action due to their influence on the balance of the endogenous horm
ones involved in the control of tuber formation and growth.
