Se. Zorinyants et In. Smolenskaya, LONG-TERM SUSPENSION-CULTURE OF TRITICUM-TIMOPHEEVII CELLS - 2 - KINETICS OF CELL-POPULATION, Russian journal of plant physiology, 45(1), 1998, pp. 82-85
The size of the proliferative pool and the parameters of mitotic cycle
(MC) were evaluated by the autoradiographic method in a rapidly growi
ng long-term suspension culture of Triticum timopheevii (Zhuk.) Zhuk.
cells. The proliferative pool reached 95%, MC was 17.5-h-long, and the
mitosis itself lasted for 1 h. These temporal characteristics approac
hed values typical of the apical meristematic cells in T. timopheevii
root tips. However, other MC phases changed significantly: the G(1) pe
riod was reduced almost completely and the S period was shortened twof
old (to 2.5 h), whereas the G(2) period expanded twofold (to 14.03 h).
The correlation between the kinetics of cell proliferation and the gr
owth pattern in a long-subcultivated suspension culture of T. timophee
vii is discussed.
