The proposed method is based on combining regression models for carbon
conversion factors with the forest inventory data bank. Its specific
feature is that the models for carbon conversion factors involve as re
gressors the same four volume-determining indices (age, site index, me
an stem diameter, and stand density) according to which the stem volum
e data are assorted in the forest inventory data bank. This combining
procedure was performed and the biases essential for the existing meth
ods of the carbon pool estimation (compared to the proposed method) we
re calculated by means of a special program developed on the base of t
he PARADOX system of database control, DOS version 4.5, using as an ex
ample birch forests of the Nev'yansk forest enterprise in Sverdlovskay
a oblast.
