Abstract
A novel approximation for the delays used in focused beamforming is pr esented which is based on weighting the terms of the Fresnel approxima tion. The objective is to enlarge the validity region of the Fresnel a pproximation to investigate wider scanning regions. The results obtain ed by applying the proposed approximation to a planar array are presen ted.
