Frequency hopping spread spectrum (FH-SS) has found a number of applic
ations in both CDMA and TDMA cellular systems, wireless local loop, an
d wireless local area networks. Propagation studies and statistical an
alysis are employed to show that the frequency hopped channel displays
improved short-term characteristics when compared to the non-hopped c
ase. Furthermore, novel analyses of the short-term statistics of the f
requency-hopped channel enable prediction of the performance of an FH
system.
