A simple method is presented for the adaptive cancelling of a sine wav
e signal of known frequency in a time series. The system is characteri
sed by the phase and amplitude parameters which are updated directly a
ccording to an LMS-style algorithm. The convergence behaviours and var
iances of these parameters are analysed. It is demonstrated that the p
roposed method can effectively remove the 50Hz power line interference
in the recording of electrocardiogams (EGG).
