Abstract
The authors discuss a number of issues concerned with the functionally efficient integration of GSM signalling and services with a low-earth orbiting (LEO) mobile communication satellite system. Modified GSM si gnalling procedures are introduced which provide prioritised access an d call setup, and reduced call setup delays.
