Abstract
A new fibre tunable depolariser was developed which can be used with c onventional laser diodes. Design criteria and principles are discussed . Experimentally, the degree of polarisation was tuned between 99.8 an d 1.15%. The authors show how the depolariser can eliminate the effect s of polarisation fluctuation in a polarisation-sensitive fibre system .
