Ay. Prokhorov, GROWTH OF HOMOGENEOUS OPTICALLY TRANSPARENT CRYOCRYSTALS IN AMPULS COOLED BY HELIUM VAPORS, Instruments and experimental techniques, 40(6), 1997, pp. 867-868
A method for the synthesis of homogeneous, optically transparent sampl
es of solidified inert and molecular gases in ampules cooled by helium
vapors is described. Using this technique, it is possible to obtain l
arge (up to 100 mm long, 10 mm in diameter) polycrystalline samples of
cryocrystals and study their properties in a wide range of temperatur
es (2-120 K) without replacing the cooling agent. This approach also a
llows the consumption of expensive liquid helium to be markedly reduce
d compared to that in other methods, because the samples are cooled by
rarefied helium vapors.
