Abstract
Power consumption of an execution unit can be reduced by interchanging its two input operands. A dynamic operand interchange method using ha rdware decision-making logic is proposed, An efficient way to implemen t the logic is also described. Switching activity reduction of up to 2 9.6% is obtained for multipliers.
