S. Yalcin et al., METASTATIC SMALL-CELL CARCINOMA OF RECTUM RESPONDING DRAMATICALLY TO COMBINATION CHEMOTHERAPY, American journal of clinical oncology, 21(1), 1998, pp. 75-76
Small-cell carcinoma of the rectum, is very rare with a dismal prognos
is that follows a more aggressive course than the pure exocrine counte
rparts. As a result, survival is usually very poor. A male patient wit
h metastatic disease is presented in this report. After receiving six
cycles of combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of cyclophospham
ide, adriamycin, and etoposide, he is in complete remission for >3 yea
rs. Although it is a single case, it shows that combination chemothera
py may achieve an excellent result even in a metastatic case of small-
cell carcinoma of the rectum.
