It is shown how the interface between solid surfaces and cavities fill
ed with gaseous Xe-131 can be probed by multiple-quantum filtered NMR.
Physisorbed Xe-131 is usually not directly observable by NMR spectros
copy, but information can be transferred into the gas phase through de
sorption. The exchange process may lead to higher-rank order of the nu
clear spins in gaseous xenon which can be detected by multiple-quantum
filtered NMR.
