This paper describes the new methods of periodontal diagnosis. An outl
ine of the problems of periodontal probing techniques is followed by a
discussion of the advances made by the use of constant pressure elect
ronic probes. We finally highlight the problems of periodontal radiogr
aphical techniques, leading on to a description of computer-aided radi
ographic methods - in particular, digital subtraction radiology and co
mputer-assisted linear radiology.
