Abstract
Nickel(II) and cobalt(II) complexes of H(salpad) are synthesized (H(sa lpad) denotes the Schiff base derived frost salicylaldehyde and N-phep yl-p-phenylenediamine). Analytical data and conductance spectral and m agnetic studies provide evidence for the existence of the mononuclear compounds corresponding io a stoichiometry of M-II: L (1:2) type. The crystal field and nephelauxetic parameters were evaluated and the valu es are found to be consistent with a trans-octahedral (Ni(salpad)(2)(H 2O)(2)) or pseudo-tetrahedral (Co(salpad)(2)) coordination stereochemi stry, respectively.
