Abstract
The Schiff base 3-(N-2-pyridylethyl)formimidoyl)salicylic acid, H(2)fs aaep, is a useful ligand for the design of heterotrinuclear complexes. The synthetic approach consists in the reaction of neutral, dinuclear precursors, [M(fsaaep)](2).nH(2)O (M = Cu-II, Mn-II) with a transitio n metal perchlorate. The synthesis of the dinuclear manganese(II) deri vative, [Mn(fsaaep)](2).4H(2)O, is first reported here. Two new hetero trinuclear complexes have been synthesized and characterized Cu2Ni(fsa aep)(2)(ClO4)(2).4H(2)O and Mn2Cu(fsaaep)(2)(ClO4)(2).2H(2)O. The magn etic and spectral properties of all these compounds are in line with t he proposed formulas.
