S. Exner, ON BECOMING A HUMAN - PHYLOGENY IN THE CO NTEXT OF THE ENVIRONMENT - A TOPIC FOR ANATOMY SEMINARS, ANNALS OF ANATOMY-ANATOMISCHER ANZEIGER, 180(1), 1998, pp. 3-9
Aspects of clinical anatomy and neuroanatomy are by far the main subje
cts of seminars in anatomy held at the Institute of Anatomy of the Fre
e University of Berlin. In the winter term (1995/96) two courses deali
ng with human phylogeny in the context of the environment have been of
fered. The engagement and ambition shown by the students was much high
er than in traditional courses. The aim, course and results of the sem
inars are presented. Based on our positive experience, we propose to b
roaden teaching in anatomy by including interdisciplinary themes and a
spects. This should allow a more comprehensive view on man, should hel
p bringing the students in early contact with scientific work and pres
enting anatomy in its widest context and in scientific history.
