Nineteen girls adopted from developing countries were referred for sig
ns of idiopathic precocious puberty. After adoption, the catch up in l
inear and weight growth, together with improved nutritional and psycho
logical conditions, may trigger the onset of puberty. Precocious puber
ty is a frequent and unnatural event in these girls. Treatment with go
nadotrophin releasing analogues is indicated in patients diagnosed ear
ly, and when height prediction is poor.
