Abstract
The compensating polarisation-mode dispersion of long fibres using pri ncipal states of polarisation is limited in bandwidth when these state s vary with frequency. A compensator, containing high birefringent fib res and polarisation controllers is described, which is adapted to the se variations and promises an enlarged bandwidth.
