Abstract
The majority of women with breast cancer are adequately treated with b reast-conserving surgery and radiation therapy. Although most women ne ed very limited surgery, some require a larger volume of resection to attain a high level of local control, and some might even require a ma stectomy. This article summarizes the current state of knowledge conce rning the assessment of the adequacy of excision.
