Nv. Narizhneva et al., COMPARISON OF STRUCTURAL-PROPERTIES OF HOMOLOGOUS PROTEINS HUMAN SERUM-ALBUMIN AND ALPHA-FETOPROTEIN, Molecular biology, 31(6), 1997, pp. 891-896
Structural properties of homologous proteins human serum albumin (SA)
and human a-fetoprotein (AFP) were studied by circular dichroism, fluo
rescence spectroscopy, and scanning microcalorimetry. The influence of
natural hydrophobic ligands on the stability of these proteins was st
udied. Removal of the ligands from AFP was shown to transfer it irreve
rsibly into a molten globule state. However, such treatment only desta
bilized SA but did not lead to a conformational transition.
