The aim of our study was to define changes in the cognitive style of t
hinking in patients with unipolar endogenous depression over three-yea
r follow-up. The sample included 38 depressed subjects who remained as
ymptomatic during follow-up period, compared to 38 healthy individuals
in control group. The subjects were assessed on admission to hospital
, aprior to discharge and then 12, 24 and 36 months after discharge. S
cores in cognitive tests obtained at 12, 24 and 36 months did not diff
er from those prior to discharge from hospital and were within the sub
depressive level, differing significantly from results in control grou
p. In patients with endogenous depression dysfunctional cognitive styl
e seems to be a trait-like feature.
