Cn. Panagopoulos et al., EXCIMER-LASER TREATMENT OF NICKEL-COATED CAST-IRON, Materials science & engineering. A, Structural materials: properties, microstructure and processing, 241(1-2), 1998, pp. 226-232
Nickel-coated cast iron was laser treated using pulsed excimer radiati
on. The amount of processing was varied by varying the laser power den
sity, number of pulses per step and the overlap between consecutive st
eps. Mixing of the coating and substrate elements was observed. The su
rface roughness was a non-linear function of the laser pulse number. S
urface layers presented higher microhardness as compared with the untr
eated material. The corrosion resistance of the laser-treated material
was found to be a function of the number of laser pulses. (C) 1998 El
