Abstract
Electroabsorption spectra of BCMU have been used to study the influenc e of disorder on the excited states in polydiacetylenes. The spectra s how strong changes of transition energy and lineshape which occur by g oing from oriented chains diluted in monomer single crystals to polyme r single crystals and spin cast films where disorder obscures the intr insic electronic properties.
