Vp. Jones et al., LIFE-TABLES FOR THE KOA SEEDWORM (LEPIDOPTERA, TORTRICIDAE) BASED ON DEGREE-DAY DEMOGRAPHY, Environmental entomology, 26(6), 1997, pp. 1291-1298
The usefulness of demography performed on a degree-day scale is examin
ed using laboratory studies on the koa seedworm, Cryptophelbia illepid
a (Butler). By using degree-day accumulations in fecundity tables, we
show that direct comparisons between time-sensitive parameters is poss
ible and helps to determine sensitivity of the organism to temperature
variations. Degree-day demography resulted in life table parameters t
hat were similar between temperatures compared with variation when dem
ographic parameters were based on calendar days.
