Abstract
Different patterns of cellulose synthesis by plant cells were found to depend on the changes in specific constituents (metabolic and diffusi on) of the electric potential on plasmalemma within a given range. A h ypothesis that the observed difference in patterns might reflect the d irect connection between tile cellulose synthesis and activity of the plasmalemma electrogenic proton pump was put forward and substantiated .
