A. Navarrete et al., GASTROPROTECTIVE ACTIVITY OF THE STEM BARK OF AMPHIPTERYGIUM ADSTRINGENS IN RATS, PTR. Phytotherapy research, 12(1), 1998, pp. 1-4
The methanol extract of the stem bark of Amphipterygium adstringens (J
ulianiaceae) showed a dose-dependent inhibitory effect on ethanol-indu
ced gastric ulcers in rats, Fractionation of this extract, guided by g
astroprotective activity in rats, led to four active fractions rich in
triterpenoid compounds, These fractions showed higher antiulcer activ
ity than bismuth subsalicylate, used as a positive control, 3 alpha-Hy
droxymasticadienonic acid was isolated from the active fractions, howe
ver, this compound showed lower antiulcer activity than the positive c
ontrol. (C) 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
