Po. Brunn et B. Abujdayil, FLUIDS WITH TRANSVERSE ISOTROPY AS MODELS FOR ELECTRORHEOLOGICAL FLUIDS, Zeitschrift fur angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 78(2), 1998, pp. 97-107
In electrorheological fluids (ER-fluids) fibers are formed upon applic
ation of an electric field E. This renders the fluid transversely isot
ropic. Studying transverse isotropy from a purely phenomenological poi
nt of view in its simplest form reveals that yield stresses have to be
reckoned with, be they shear stresses or normal stresses. For ER-flui
ds yield shear stresses are well documented but yield normal stresses
have thus far received no attention.
