Abstract
We consider a memory model with bounded synaptic weights and an asymme try in the strengthening and weakening of the synapses, and study the effects of varying the fraction of non-zero initial weights. The cases of synapses connected extremely dilutely and fully are both considere d. Novel phenomena such as initial depression, initial lapse, medial d epression and medial lapse are reported. The relevance of this work to biology and the modelling of short-term memory is also discussed.
