Abstract
To determine whether or not biotransformation rates of PAH are influen ced by induction of enzymes, fathead minnows were exposed to benzo(a)a nthracene (B(a)A) in water for various exposure times followed by an e limination period. After exposure for between 5 and 336 h no significa nt differences between elimination rate constants (mean 1.53 +/- 0.18 d(-1)) were found. From this finding it is concluded that induction of biotransformation of waterborne B(a)A does not occur in fathead minno w. In addition, for B(a)A a bioconcentration factor of 260 1 kg(-1) wa s found. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
