Abstract
A new approach to the notion of invariant of finite degree is discusse d. Using this approach it is proved that if one changes gleams in Tura ev's shadow presentation of a link, then an invariant of finite degree changes polynomially. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reser ved.
