EXCITATION-FUNCTIONS OF NE-NAT(HE-3,X)NA-22,NA-24 AND NE-NAT(ALPHA,X)NA-22,NA-24 PROCESSES - INVESTIGATION OF PRODUCTION OF NA-22 AND NA-24AT A MEDIUM-SIZED CYCLOTRON

Excitation functions were measured for He-3- and alpha-particle induce
d nuclear reactions on natural neon leading to the formation of Na-22
and Na-24 from their respective thresholds up to 36 MeV in the case of
He-3-particles and up to 27 MeV for alpha-particles. Use was made of
the stacked-gas cell technique. A comparison of production yields of N
a-22 and Na-24 via various low energy (E-projectile less than or equal
to 40 MeV) routes is given. Na-22 can be produced at a low energy mul
tiparticle accelerator using proton, He-3- or alpha-particle induced r
eactions on neon, the highest yield being provided by protons. For Na-
24 production, the Mg-26(d, alpha) reaction is most suitable.
