Gf. Ufimtsev et H. Fogt, NORTHERN PROVINCE (DIUA AND BARONNI) AS A N EXAMPLE MORPHOTECTONICS OF THE OUTER CHAINS OF THE ALPIAN OROGENS, Geologia i geofizika, 38(12), 1997, pp. 1968-1979
Under consideration are folded mountains of the western margin of the
Alpian orogenic belt, formed in the layered upper tectonic slab moving
, under conditions of horizontal compression, towards the foreland and
suffering folding and tectonic heaping. Description is given to the m
ain Jurassic and sub-Alpian morphotectonic features: synclinal valleys
and anticlinal ridges, monoclinal crests, and uplifted cores of syncl
ines. A model for the formation of folded mountains (Jurassic mechanis
m of orogeny) has been proposed. Folded mountains or Jurassic-type rel
ief are specific for the morphotectonics of the outer chains of the Al
pian-Himalayan mobile belt.
