The synthesis and the photochromic properties of a new family of napht
hopyrans substituted in the -3 position by a ferrocenyl group are pres
ented. The photochromic behaviour of these compounds is compared with
the parent -3,3-diphenyl-naphthopyrans ones. It shows quite original p
hotochromic properties: extended wavelength range in the visible absor
ption spectrum, sensitivity of the spectrokinetic parameters to the an
nellation type.
