Gm. Varshal et al., DIFFUSION KINETIC METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF OSMIUM AND RUTHENIUM IN SOLUTIONS, Journal of analytical chemistry, 53(2), 1998, pp. 112-116
Methods for determining ultratraces of ruthenium and osmium in solutio
ns were developed. The methods involve the preconcentration of these e
lements as volatile tetroxides in diffusion cells and the subsequent k
inetic determination by their catalytic effect in oxidation reactions
of Tropaeolin OO with periodate and of arsenite with bromate, respecti
vely. Optimal compositions for oxidizing and reducing mixtures and the
time of the procedure providing a quantitative yield of ruthenium and
osmium in diffusion preconcentration were determined. Under the recom
mended conditions, the determination limit is 0.005 mu g in 5 mt of a
test solution taken from the inner chamber of the diffusion cell for o
smium and 0.01 mu g in 2.5 mL of a test solution for ruthenium.
