A. Lacorte et al., AN ANALYTICAL PARADIGM TO CALCULATE MULTIPLEXER PERFORMANCE IN AN ATMMULTIMEDIA ENVIRONMENT, Computer networks and ISDN systems, 29(16), 1997, pp. 1881-1900
In this paper a finite-buffer discrete-time approach is presented in o
rder to analyze the performance of a multiplexer loaded by N multimedi
a sources. For this purpose the emission process of each multimedia so
urce is defined as the superstitution of heterogeneous correlated emis
sion processes, each of which models one monomedia source as a Switche
d Batch Bemoulli Process (SBBP). In order to model the intermedia rela
tionships, the Markov chain underlying each SBBP consists of a 2-state
process, where the transition probabilities are functions of the stat
es of the other monomedia sources. Correlation functions are derived f
or each monomedia source as well as for the multimedia source as a who
le. The proposed analytical model is used to calculate the loss probab
ility and the delay jitter pdf for each media in an ATM multimedia mul
tiplexer structure. The effectiveness of the proposed paradigm is show
n by means of various examples in a case study, (C) 1997 Elsevier Scie
