A feedforward-plus-feedback control scheme is presented to prevent con
gestion in store-and-forward packet-switching networks. The control sc
heme consists of two algorithms: an input traffic adjustment algorithm
and a control signal computation algorithm. Specifically, the input t
raffic adjustment algorithm employs a proportional-fairness policy in
resource allocation, such that the admitted traffic sate into the netw
ork is proportional to the offered traffic rate. The control signal co
mputation algorithm to ensure asymptotic stability of the overall syst
em in the robust sense and to obtain the desired transient performance
in the adaptive sense, with respect to changes of the offered traffic
pattern, ave designed.
