Abstract
We consider that no consensus currently exists on how PACS should be d ecomposed into well-defined and interoperable industrial products. We believe that this lack of consensus hampers the development of multi-v endor PACS and makes the standardization process slower. This paper tr ies to understand the ins and outs of these choices. To realize this w e have used the MIMOSA functional model (EurIPACS: project) as a refer ence model. We have then delineated the borders between several possib le industrial products in the fields of work flow management and manag ement of image availability. We have compared these solutions from sev eral perspectives, including the manufacturers' strategy, the users' s trategy and the standardization.
