Since the involvement of psychiatrists in French Forces Operational Mi
ssions, a new practice has appeared: the medico-psychological interven
tion in emergency situations within units, This lecture emphazises the
common action of the psychiatrists and unit physicians who have worke
d together in ex-Yugoslavia in a crisis context where soldiers have be
en confronted with trying situations: injured or killed people after a
ccidents, suicides, missions in a disaster context. The objectives of
this action have been the screening and treatment of soldiers facing d
ifficulties, art individual help to overcome this stressful situation,
a prevention of post-traumatic stress disorder This action is put int
o practice by the psychiatrist and the unit physician together.
