Abstract
Percutaneous placement of nephrostomy catheters in patients with non-d ilated pelvicaliceal systems remains problematic. We successfully perf ormed ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrostomies in 5 such patients after intravenous administration of a diuretic agent. Diuresis resulte d in transient dilatation of the calyces, facilitating the procedures, which were performed under real-time sonographic guidance using the S eldinger technique. No complications were encountered. (C) 1998 John W iley & Sons, Inc.
