Aa. Boulbitch, DEFLECTION OF A CELL-MEMBRANE UNDER APPLICATION OF A LOCAL FORCE, Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics, 57(2), 1998, pp. 2123-2128
If a localized force or torque (caused by an integral protein, a recep
tor, a cantilever of the atomic force microscope, a cell-kicking instr
ument, and so on) is applied to the surface of a cell membrane it is d
eflected in a small region. Equations describing the statics and dynam
ics of small local deflections of the cell membrane are deduced and th
e Green function of the state equation is calculated. The force-displa
cement dependence for an atomic force microscope in the regime of smal
l indentation is discussed.
