This paper describes P-LARSP, an adaptation of the LARSP profile for P
ersian. It is based on data collected as part of a longitudinal study
of three monolingual Persian-speaking children between the ages of 1;8
and 3;0, 2;2 and 3;2 and 2;4 and 3;4, and the resulting profile chart
represents the full range of grammatical structures produced by these
children. As well as providing the first published overview of the ac
quisition of Persian syntax and morphology the profile also constitute
s an outline description of contemporary spoken Persian, a pro-drop, i
nflectional and mostly verb-final language which has been very little
studied. In addition, the P-LARSP profile is also the first formal pro
cedure devised for assessing language impairment in Persian, and can b
e used to compare the language of different children as well as the sa
me child's language at different stages of development.
