M. Lefkir et al., EXISTENCE OF A BISTABLE POLARIZATION STATE IN A KERR MEDIUM IN THE PRESENCE OF 2-PHOTON ABSORPTION, Quantum and semiclassical optics, 10(1), 1998, pp. 283-292
An elliptically polarized beam is sent into a cell filled with nitrobe
nzol. The output polarization shows two stable states for a single :je
t of input parameters when the excitation is above the two-photon abso
rption threshold. Transverse field effects combined with third-order n
onlinear parameter changes at high intensities can be used to explain
the observations.
