The condensation reaction between C.I. Reactive Red 120 and m- and p-(
beta-sulfatoethyl-sulfonyl)aniline has been studied using the TLC-doub
le scanning method. The condensation reaction follows a consecutive re
action route, and the rates of the first-step reaction (k(1)) are abou
t twice as fast as those of the second-step reaction (k(1)) The rate c
onstants of the two step reaction (k(1) and k(2)) vary with reaction t
emperature and pH. The rate constants of the condensation reaction bet
ween m-(beta-sulfatoethyl-sulfonyl)aniline and C.I. Reactive Red 120 a
re about 10 times greater than for p-(beta-sulfatoethyl-sulfonyl)anili
