Jf. Guelfi et D. Candebat, EVOLUTION OF THE HEMOGRAM IN ADULT DOGS A S A FUNCTION OF TIME FROM THE ONSET OF ACUTE SPONTANEOUS BABESIOSIS, Revue de Medecine Veterinaire, 149(1), 1998, pp. 65-68
Hemograms have been performed in 48 adult dogs with acute spontaneous
babesiosis (Babesia canis). Comparison have been made according to the
date of onset of the disease. In dogs examinated during the first 24
hours, marked thrombopenia, eosinopenia and lymphopenia were observed
and blood infection was often severe. In dogs examinated later, thromb
openia and eosinopenia persisted. Lymphocytes and monocytes counts wer
e normal or increased; some modified cells were observed : lymphocytes
with azurophilic granulations or with hyperbasophilic cytoplasm and m
acrophages. A regenerative anemia was often observed and blood infecti
on had decreased. The duration of evolution of the disease can be eval
uated according the hematological modifications observed.
