Pulmonary function testing is a valuable tool in the diagnosis and man
agement of children with asthma. General principles of pulmonary funct
ion testing and specifics of spirometry and peak flow monitoring are r
eviewed. Interpretation of spirometry, including determination of adeq
uate efforts, is discussed. Specific examples of the use of pulmonary
function testing in children with asthma or other respiratory problems
are included.
