Abstract
A convenient, large-scale synthesis of a dibenz[b,e]oxepinone derivati ve is described. The dibenz[b,e]oxepinone ring system is constructed u sing an iron chloride catalyzed intramolecular Friedel-Crafts cyclizat ion of an appropriate phenoxymethylbenzoic acid chloride in toluene, r eagents and conditions that are economically and environmentally compa tible with large-scale preparation.
