D. Popesco et al., EPIDURAL ABSCESS FOLLOWING SPINAL-ANESTHE SIA IN A DIABETIC PATIENT, Annales francaises d'anesthesie et de reanimation, 16(8), 1997, pp. 964-966
Infectious complications of spinal or epidural anaesthesia are rare, p
articularly after spinal anaesthesia. Most of them consist of a mening
itis. We report a case of epidural abscess due to Staphylococcus aureu
s following spinal anaesthesia in a 62-year-old diabetic patient, diag
nosed 45 days after the puncture with bacterial samples and magnetic r
esonance imaging. The pejorative neurological outcome required a lamin
ectomy in spite of an efficient anti-staphylococcal treatment.
